want to paint a oak bookshelf with an oak finish. how would i do this?

okay i be to paint an ocean scene on a bookshelf i have just purchesed. can i objective buy a primer and paint over it with acrylic paint or would i have to do something else to it? Would acrylic art colouring work? would i have to strip it?

HELP ME PLEASE

I don't entirely understand. You said you wanted to paint it with an oak finish, but also requirement to paint an ocean scene? I'm not an artist, but I don't think you do both at the same habits.
